Erin Nugent is a former Police Officer and Detective from Australia whose life’s work is dedicated to improving the mental health, resilience, and relationships of First Responders and their families.
After serving nine years in law enforcement, Erin married an active-duty Massachusetts firefighter who has served more than 24 years in the fire service. This unique combination of professional and personal experience gives Erin something few speakers can offer—a genuine understanding of both sides of the badge. She knows the mindset, pressures, and culture of those who serve while deeply understanding the emotional realities faced by spouses and families at home.
That dual perspective fuels Erin’s mission to strengthen First Responder marriages and relationships through honest conversations, practical strategies, and greater awareness of the unique dynamics that accompany careers in public safety.
Erin’s passion for mental health advocacy is also deeply personal. After losing her father to suicide, she gained firsthand insight into the devastating impact mental health struggles can have on families. That experience drives her commitment to suicide awareness, prevention, and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health within the First Responder community.
As a Certified Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) professional and First Responder Wellness Coach, Erin works directly with First Responders and their partners to build healthier relationships, improve resilience, and navigate the emotional demands of the profession. She also brings valuable experience as a former Crisis Counselor with Samaritans, a Boston-based suicide prevention organization, while continuing advanced studies in counseling and psychology through Australian educational institutions.
Erin extends her mission through two mental health platforms: she hosts Holding Space with Erin Jane on The Thin Line Rock Station and the podcast I Will Hold Space For Your Darkness: A First Responder Mental Health Podcast, where she creates meaningful conversations around wellness, resilience, trauma, and healing.
Whether speaking to law enforcement agencies, fire departments, EMS professionals, dispatchers, military organizations, conferences, leadership teams, or spouses and families, Erin delivers authentic, relatable presentations that leave audiences with practical tools they can immediately apply both on the job and at home.
Available for keynote presentations, conferences, workshops, leadership events, and virtual engagements, Erin resides in the Boston, MA
