Tyler Grey is an advocate for veterans’ issues with a focus on mental health as well as overcoming combat injuries. He was an assaulter with the US Army’s Tier 1 counter terrorism unit until his career path greatly altered when he was seriously wounded during a nighttime raid in Sadr City, Iraq taking him out of the fight and into the hospital for 3 months. Then began the slow and tedious process of healing with surgery after surgery followed by painful rehab, which took almost 4 years.

Mr. Grey was then medically retired from the Army and became a civilian. A year into civilian life he was at the absolute bottom no longer being a member of the team he loved and no longer feeling like the person he used to be. From there he made the decision to fight and re-forge himself and become not who he used to be but a better version, one smarter, tougher, and more aware of the things that can tear you down. He made a documentary on his experiences and started speaking to veterans’ groups, corporations, and the mental health community challenging traditional ways of dealing with PTS(D) and offering new theories on veteran’s mental issues based on his own experiences. His documentary entitled: “That Which I Love Destroys Me” won a 2015 Voice award for outstanding contribution to mental health and became the film shown to all mental health professionals at Walter Reed and Bethesda Hospital in Maryland.

As a speaker Mr. Grey brings a candid, raw and powerful voice explaining how he went from not being able to get out of bed in the morning to attacking everyday like it’s a military mission. He message is simply that: Find your mission because that’s your motivation.
Working on multiple veteran or military related films for years; he finally got the opportunity to portray his community and the truth of that lifestyle with CBS/Paramount Plus, as a producer and actor on the show: “SEAL Team”. “SEAL Team” has the most full-time special operations veterans of any production in the history of the industry, and the end product is one that the military and veteran community have embraced. Working on the show Mr. Grey finally found a new elite team to be a part of something that he hasn’t had since the military. More importantly it’s a place where veterans issues can be talked about and addressed in story, and the solutions, growth, and understanding of the characters are seen by veterans and civilians alike helping them better understand themselves and others respectively.

Tyler’s upcoming book talks about mental health and the issues with transitioning out of the military into civilian life. The book presents an entirely new paradigm for how both veterans and mental health professionals should mental health. The book presents an alternate theory to the commonly held perspective that PTSD is the main issue facing veterans today. The book challenges that perspective and offers not just a personal perspective but also science-based evidence on why PTSD is at best an incomplete diagnosis for veterans and one that needs to be better studied and researched. The book will completely change many veterans’ minds on the nature of their trauma and allow them to take a new step in the right direction allowing them to finally see true change.
